The way i talk.
I believe that one of the reasons my language is corrupt comes from the people I interact with on a daily basis, family and friends, I’m not saying my family uses “slang words” but they do speak another language and I think that has definitely influenced the way I talk, with my friends is a whole different story because it can go from bad language to a dictionary full of slang terms, a normal sentence can become a totally different language, words have different meaning and the pronunciation for some people just gets crazy. I would say that I need help in order to build a solid professional language because I know that in corporate America it is needed in order to be successful and respected. Knowing when to change the way I speak sounds easy, at times I forget and get confortable and that’s when all of the slang terms come out, even the small words “ aint, finna , aite, gunna and bruh” make the difference between a solid vocabulary, they make you sound ignorant or unprofessional and in the corporate world people may think you don’t have the skills to complete a simple task. All I can do at this period of time is practice code switching between my personal and professional life.

I believe that we have other influences for our language. There is television as well as movies that influence ou speech.I do agree that family is the major part because of the fact that our parent are the first one we hear and the first we have conversations with.
ReplyDeleteThe people around you can definitely influence how you talk especially if you hung out with them alot or even grew up with them...Television could play a part in it but not as much as actually being around the people
ReplyDeleteI respect you point of view. I to believe that to be successful you have to learn use proper educate in a professional setting or you are just going to look foolish saying “what’s up bruh " walking in to an interview. I to be still learning to speak the professional language but also am not trying to forget where I came from. Just like you all I can do is continue to practice code switching
